80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY LANDINGS: THURSDAY, 6 JUNE
Here is the programme for Bovingdon Green, Hertfordshire, this Thursday, 6 June for the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings; my Dad landed on D-Day.

Thursday, 6 June:
17.00 Cricket club open
17.30 Cricket Club bar open. Kerry Underwood hosting during evening.
17.30 Fish and Chips available to buy. It’s National Fish and Chip Day.
17.30/18.00 Waddingtons on the Road coffee vendor in situ
17.30-18.00 onwards – Scouts – Burgers etc
18.00 Cricket Match. Bovingdon Mid-Week team v The Grove
20.45 Cricket match ends
21.00-21.10 Assemble at Beacon Brazier
21.14/15 Mark Jarrad to read D-Day Poem
21.15 Richard Roberts lights the beacon
21.30/22.30 – Cricket Club bar remains open.
Thanks Kerry – we are in Italy this week but that sounds great. 6th June was also my dad’s birthday, so he would have been 18 on D Day – not sure if he played a part, and he died in 2005 aged 79. I will try and find out from my mum. Nick

Thanks Nick – and sorry for the delay in replying.
We had an estimated 2,500 people attend the D Day event on Bovingdon Green ,including groups of teenagers coming to pay their respects. It was moving and uplifting.
Would love to hear more about your Dad -and also your Mum’s experience. Understandably attention is focused on those who crossed the Channel, but I often wonder what the atmosphere in the UK must have been as a whole country waited for news of events that would shape their -and our-future as well as the fear for the safety of their loved ones.
